Jim Irsay, who passed away in May 2025 at the age of 65, was passionate about collecting. His family released a statement expressing that the decision to auction the collection was made after careful consideration of his legacy and love for the stories behind each piece. Irsay had owned the Indianapolis Colts since 1997, during which he built a strong reputation as a collector and philanthropist.

In recent years, parts of his collection have been featured in traveling exhibitions and concerts, including a yearlong display at Indiana University that concluded in September 2025. Irsay’s three daughters now oversee the Colts, who are currently leading the NFL with a 71 record in the ongoing season, supported by standout performances from quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Jonathan Taylor.
