Sunday morning marked the 45th Annual Royal Victoria Marathon (RVM), a historic event that brought together thousands of enthusiastic runners. This year, the marathon achieved record participation, drawing over 15,000 athletes, surpassing last year’s attendance by more than 3,000. The races included a variety of options: a full marathon, halfmarathon, 8K, 5K, and children’s runs, all of which sold out prior to the event.
Charity Efforts Exceed Expectations
In addition to the athletic competition, the marathon featured a significant charity component. The CHEK charity pledge program included 21 participating charities. They collectively raised an impressive $150,000, exceeding their goal of $125,000.
Race Day Logistics
Runners began their races at around 7 a.m., with organizers advising spectators and drivers to anticipate traffic delays and road closures, particularly in downtown Victoria and along Dallas Road. The Victoria Police Department issued reminders to aid in managing the logistics of the event.
Special Broadcast Coverage
For those unable to attend, CHEK provided a live stream of the marathon, starting at 7:15 a.m. Later in the evening, a special 30minute recap of the 45th Royal Victoria Marathon will air at 6:30 p.m. This broadcast, hosted by Jeff King, will include race highlights and interviews with participants and organizers.
