Relief convoeys reach Darfur from Chad السودانية , اخبار السودان

Relief convoeys, carrying medical and food supplies provided by international nongovernment organisations, are intended to support more than 185,000 people.

AlFashir, Kampala: Altaghyeer

The first relief convoys crossed the Chadian borders at alTina town into alFashir in North Darfur after months of suspension.

Carrying medical and food supplies provided by international nongovernment organisations, the convoys arrived at the city under protection of the Darfur armed movements joint force, said Spokesperson of Sudan Liberation Army/Minawe faction, Ahmed Hussain.

The supplies are intended to support more than 185,000 people including women and children.

People in Darfur region are witnessing wide spread hunger since the World Food Program (WFP) suspended relief operations ten months ago.

The Sudanese status quo government has closed the borders citing concerns that they would be used to send military supplies to the rival Rapid Support Forces.

But the government announced this month that a number of border crossings and airports could be used as corridors for humanitarian aid.

Darfur Region government rejected on Friday the RSF disapproval of delivering humanitarian assistance via alShamalia (the Northern) State describing the move as a crime against humanity.
