The Skidmore College women’s tennis team showcased impressive talent during the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships held in Saratoga Springs, NY. Freshman Ginevra Muratori made headlines by capturing the Singles title, marking the first victory for Skidmore in this category since 2018. This stellar performance was complemented by her role in securing a runnerup position in doubles alongside fellow freshman Amelie Gonzalez.
Muratori’s Path to Singles Victory
Ginevra Muratori demonstrated exceptional skill and composure throughout the tournament. She began her day by dominating RPI’s Kaaviya Kannan in the semifinal round, dropping only one game to win 61, 60. In the final match, Muratori faced off against NYU’s Victoria Wang, securing a decisive 64, 62 victory. This win not only sealed her place as Skidmore’s first singles champion since 2018 but also qualified her for the ITA Cup tournament next month. Muratori’s journey to the championship involved overcoming numerous highseeded opponents, highlighting her potential in collegiate tennis.
Thoroughbreds Duo Earns Doubles RunnerUp
In doubles play, the freshman pair of Muratori and Amelie Gonzalez demonstrated strong teamwork and resilience. They began by defeating the NYU duo Kast/Bondarenko with an emphatic 85 win in the semifinals, earning a spot in the championship match and a subsequent invitation to the ITA Cup. Despite their early lead against RPI’s Jaiswal/Ridenour in the finals, the duo encountered a spirited comeback from the Engineers, concluding with a 38 result.
Upcoming Matches and Schedule
Looking ahead, the Skidmore Thoroughbreds are set to host Union in their only dual match of the fall season. The competition will take place at the McCafferyWagman Tennis and Wellness Center, with the first serve scheduled for 6:30 PM on Thursday.
